ESEnfC is a national and international benchmark for quality and innovation, with a recognized role in the health system and society. It is composed of an educational community committed to the humanistic, scientific, technical, and cultural training of socially recognized professionals, the promotion of accredited research, the dissemination of knowledge, and the provision of services (Statutes, normative order no. 50/2008).
Its mission includes undergraduate and postgraduate training in nursing and health, research and innovation, the transfer and economic valorization of scientific and technological knowledge; the provision of services to the community and support for development; cooperation and cultural, scientific, and technical exchange with similar national and foreign institutions; contributing, within its scope of activity, to international cooperation and bringing people closer together, with special emphasis on Portuguese-speaking countries and European countries; the production and dissemination of knowledge and culture (Statutes, normative order no. 50/2008).
To promote the development of scientific research in health sciences, specifically in the area of nursing, the School hosts the Research Unit in Health Sciences: Nursing (UICISA: E), which is accredited by the Foundation for Science and Technology. As part of its social responsibility and commitment to promoting global health, since 2014, the ESEnfC has been a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Nursing Practice and Research, the first nursing collaborating centre on the Iberian Peninsula, whose main purpose is to support local, regional, and global health promotion.
Within this framework, to boost the development of nursing through quality teaching, research, and innovation in teaching practices, including the use of simulation in nurse training, the ESEnfC has been involved in coordinating and participating in different projects, including, in particular, projects in the field of prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance. The knowledge acquired during the development of the multiple projects already carried out is a valuable contribution to the transfer of knowledge and good practices within the framework of the HAInnovPrev project, to improve nursing curricula in Latin America in terms of the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance.

Universidade Federal de Viçosa (Brazil)
The Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Brazil. It was created as the School of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (Esav) in 1926. Esav was transformed into the Rural University of the State of Minas Gerais (Uremg) in 1948 and made a Federal University as UFV in 1969. Initially, the institution stood out in the Agricultural Sciences, with its Agriculture and Veterinary courses. Today, besides continuing to be a reference in that area, it also has excellence in teaching, research, and extension of the Biological, Exact, and Human Sciences. UFV is often highlighted in educational rankings in the country and the world. The performance of students from the Application College (CAp-Coluni) was also considered, for seven consecutive years, the best among public schools in the country, on the National High School Education Exam (Enem).
In 2011, UFV created TechnoPARQ (Technological Park of Viçosa), a business incubator, offering guidance on IdeAction Laboratory, Pre-incubation, Incubation and Resident Company program. It aims to transfer knowledge and technology to technology-based enterprises for the benefit of society.
The Department of Medicine and Nursing (DEM) was created in 2010 and is part of the Center of Biological and Health Sciences (CCB) at UFV. The department brings together the undergraduate programs in Nursing and Medicine, the Medical Residency program, and the graduate program – a professional master’s degree in health sciences. The research faculty maintains partnerships with several universities and research institutes in Brazil (FIOCRUZ, IFRJ, UERJ, UFJF, UFMG, UFF, UFRJ, UnB) and abroad (Asklepios-Med Bt, Hungary, Southampton University Hospitals, UK; Escola Superior de Enfermagem de Coimbra, Portugal, and the University of Florida).
In terms of teaching, the DEM was granted financial resources from the Ministry of Education (MEC) to renovate the laboratories for practical classes, equipment maintenance, purchase of consumables and permanent materials, and intends to purchase different types of simulators to improve teaching, learning, and assessment methods using clinical simulation as a pedagogical strategy. Clinical teaching activities that contribute to the education of the students are carried out in healthcare institutions in the region. Moreover, the various teaching, research, and extension projects that are funded by the UFV and other funding agencies, as well as the academic Leagues are other activities that contribute in a complementary and qualitative way to the education of the students. The nursing course also has a Junior Nursing Company, HUMANIZA, created in 2015. It is a non-profit organization that offers services in several areas of Nursing, focused on management and leadership in health services and care.
